Turnstile Collection – Volunteers Needed
We’re having a turnstile collection at Easter Road Stadium for Hibernian FC’s home game against Dundee United FC on Sunday, October 2. As with other turnstile collections, it’s the number of volunteers that decides how successful the collection will be. The match is scheduled to kick off at 12pm so buckets will be available from the usual spot from 10.30am onwards.
If you’re able to volunteer to shake a bucket for a short time before the match then please email jackie@dniprokids.com.
There will also be 20 children over in Edinburgh from Ukraine on this date (see Children of War upodate below) and they will be down at Easter Road Stadium assisting with the collection.
So, be sure and give these kids a warm Scottish welcome if you are at the match or passing a bucket!
We would also like to say a huge “thank you” to Hibernian FC, which has very generously provided all the children with free tickets for the match.
Children Of War Project Update
The project continues to gather momentum now that the dates have been finalised, with the children arriving on October 1 and departing on the October 10. We are working towards ensuring that there is a full schedule of activities organised for them.
We’re still looking for some ideas for activities, especially discounted ones, to help fill up one or two of the days. If you have any activity or fundraising ideas then please e-mail steven@dniprokids.com.
There is also a separate fundraising page for this project, please give generously
Birthday Trip
We had a birthday trip right at the start of September for the orphanage children with autumn birthdays. For the trip, we took them to the Cchocolate Factory Cafe, where they were able to design and make their own chocolate confectioneries.
After they had finished making them the staff took the sweets away to gift wrap, leaving the kids to toast a successful day’s work.
We then handed out the birthday gifts that each of the kids had asked for.
And at the end the staff returned with their confectioneries all gift wrapped, along with their ‘Master Chocolatier’ certificates.
A very enjoyable day out for all the kids.
The next stop was at a small zoo-park called “The Three Bears”.
On Yer Bike
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been delivering bicycles to each of the orphanages. We had a request in from one of the orphanages to assist with getting a bike for the kids to use, so we thought it only fair that we organise delivery of a nice new bike to each of the orphanages. Unfortunately, funds don’t allow us to buy each child a bike but, by purchasing good quality ones that will last, it is hoped that each child gets the benefit of it as they get bigger.
September Trip To Western Ukraine
As always, our autumn trips are something special. This year’s trip to Western Ukraine was no different, and we’re currently processing all the photos ready for the next Dnipro Kids update.
As the trip was so good, and we’ve literally got hundreds of photos, we will be doing a four-part update of the trip over the next couple of weeks. The report itself has been written by child sponsor Ian McDonald, who was returning to Dnipro for the first time since assisting with the Aberdeen FC supporter’s visit to the TB Sanatorium back in 2007.
