Birthday trips are something our kids remember doing from Ukraine, they all loved their birthdays organized by us as they were always fun, special and made with lots of love and care about each child. In the days before the invasion, the charity used to do so many interesting things for birthdays together: bowling, ice skating, roller skating, play parks and chocolate making master classes, to name a few.
When the war in Ukraine started lots of things changed including the way that we celebrate the kids’ birthdays. As we have been so busy with daily tasks, challenges and getting settled in a new country, we put our birthday trips on hold for a while. But we are pleased to report that they have started up again. The excitement level went through the roof when we told the first group of the kids that we are going to have some fun together and celebrate their births.
As the majority of the kids in that group are 13+ we decided to visit the cinema together and have a nice meal. We were worried that the boys and girls maynot agree on what to watch, but every one of the Ukrainian children that the charity supports loved this idea – nobody had a problem with watching “Snow White” and going to Cosmo in Edinburgh afterwards. With comfortable cinema chairs and a nice company, what’s not to love! The kids comented “much better then to watch it at home!”. It was a wonderful movie with singing, dancing, story and acting, and a famous happy ending.
With big smiles on their faces we went to Cosmo to continue our celebration. The children smiled as they ate their food, laughing and chatting with each other. Cosmo is a buffet type restaurant with a large selection of food, the children enjoyed eating pizza, sushi, and of course, desserts! They all definitely enjoyed the day and returned home happy.
But most of all, the kids received and loved their birthday gifts!
