Hibernian supporters tend to leave a lasting impression wherever they travel, and over the years friendships have been formed around the world where the Club have travelled either on pre or mid-season tours or indeed on UEFA Cup business.

It was through the latter that the most recent examples of such bonds were seen. When Tony Mowbray took his side to the Ukraine to face Dnepropetrovsk, a group of Hibernian supporters led by Steven Carr and Mark Strachan took time out to visit a local orphanage and pass on the best wishes of all Scottish football fans.

Steven and Mark, along with their army of helpers in green and white, raised enough money to supply the Ukranian orphanage with "luxury" items such as boots, winter coats and new bed sheets that are simply taken for granted here in Scotland. The gardener used to have to cut the grass with a scythe you you can imagine the look on his face when we arrived with a brand new lawnmower!

If there were ever any doubts over the gesture from the supporters, these were soon completely dispelled when a small contingent, including Hibernian Football Club officials, visited the Orphanage back at the end of September. The delight shown by the kids, and the clear pleasure that the visit from the Hibernian supporters brought, warmed the hearts of everyone involved. And so was born, The Dnipro Appeal...
